Golden Lane Leisure Centre Proposals

The City of London Corporation is progressing plans to refurbish and renew Golden Lane Leisure Centre, and we have been and continue to work with residents, neighbours and leisure centre users to help shape them.

What you told us

The design was chosen following an open architectural competition in 1951 that saw 178 entries. The winning scheme comprised an 11-storey block – a deliberate landmark feature – along with a further 12, lower level blocks and a community centre. All were configured with an inward looking layout situated around a series of pedestrian courts.
Following feedback from our previous engagement, we have refined our proposals to renew and reopen the leisure centre. We would now like to share these updated plans with you before we submit a planning application, targeting late October 2026.

Updated proposals

Our design team has been developing the plans further, shaped by the feedback we received.
This ongoing dialogue helps us make informed decisions and work towards an inclusive, welcoming and sustainable leisure centre that responds to the needs of its community.
Further information can be seen on our engagement boards.
